He is based in Portland, Oregon. He has worked in print travel journalism, edited a campus newspaper, and accumulated enough Spanish over ten years of travel to navigate Latin America without a phrasebook. His editorial standards were set early by a mother who corrected his writing from age seven and treated vague sentences as a form of dishonesty.
